Recommended first step
Set up this computer
Run the Design Studio’s guided browser check, review reversible display settings, and check the local SolidWorks connection with separate permissions.
The check reports what it could verify. Native software and driver changes require a separate supported action.

Set up QUICKSURFACE and the SOLIDWORKS companion, check your current PC, and compare measured results here. Return to the same design studio when you’re ready to work.

Progress stays in this browser.
A completed checklist records your progress; host acceptance and manufacturing review remain separate.
Set up the tool you need
These guides stay within Bill’s workspace. Remote hosting is optional and has not been provisioned.

| Step | Record | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Identify the input | Approved original STL, byte size, SHA-256, units, bounds and orientation. Keep the source unchanged. | If the original full-detail STL is unavailable, pause this model test. The historical faceted STEP is not a substitute original scan. |
| 2 · Establish Bill’s baseline | Readiness inventory, exact software build and import options; one first-open result and three warm repeats per operation. | Use the current working PC before moving its license. |
| 3 · Test a candidate host | Same input and settings on a dedicated physical workstation or GPU VM, with a permitted license and compatible stack. | Compare CPU-bound rebuilds, memory use and remote interaction separately. |
| 4 · Check the return | Reference fidelity, the 914.4 mm intended figure height, native interface edit/rebuild and a STEP return reopened in the target application. | Speed alone cannot pass the engineering review. Printing and manufacturing remain separate gates. |
When a remote host would help
Start with the current PC and an approved project copy. A dedicated GO3D host is an optional later step if the same-file test demonstrates a useful improvement. Keep SOLIDWORKS 2021 where its license and supported environment permit; evaluate standalone QUICKSURFACE Pro separately when needed.
The setup plan in the kit separates workstation hosting, software entitlement, remote display, backup and GO3D support costs. It also defines the later AI-assist boundary: reviewable native operations and checked copies, with no QUICKSURFACE scripting assumed.
QUICKSURFACE setup and compatibility →Readiness without an installation
The kit includes a Windows PowerShell inventory script. It reads CPU, RAM, GPU and relevant installed product versions, and hashes only the CAD files you explicitly select. It does not read activation keys, install software, contact a server or change your CAD files.
Windows execution still needs testing on Bill’s machine. The report is inventory, not a supported-host certification. No administrator elevation is requested.

Still to verify
Confirm exact service packs, license type and permitted hosted use. Compare actual CAD timings before choosing a host.
Compare actual repeat times
How to measure a fair comparison
Use the same approved file and the same operation/settings on both computers. Record the first opening separately, then time three warm repeats in seconds. Start and stop at the same events each time. The middle result is the median, which reduces the influence of one unusually slow run.
Compare geometry, units and the reopened return file as well as speed. Different CAD builds measure the whole workflow, not hardware alone. No performance result is accepted automatically.
Record three warm runs in seconds on each workstation. Keep the same approved input, operation, import options and model settings. Do not enter estimates. First-open time and memory evidence belong in the kit’s run log.
