Design in the viewer.
Return to editable SolidWorks.

Reuse your mechanical library, set and revise section cuts in place, edit exposed native dimensions and configurations, and queue reference mates. The companion creates a separate native design and carries a focused scan-to-model and color-finish test plan back to GO3D. Compare a small feature-first interface and localized NURBS patch; choose full-color printing for RGB fidelity, wrap for suitable larger smooth segments, or hydro-dip for decorative patterns. The viewer’s process diagrams are schematics, not coating or color simulations.

Start with a guided system check

Check this computer in Design Studio

The browser check measures the actual 3D view and shows a proposed display profile. Review the exact changes, then choose Apply these viewer settings. Undo restores the prior preferences. The check alone applies no settings.

For installed CPU, memory, GPU/driver and SolidWorks version information, use the local companion below. Results stay local; a support report is shared only if you choose to send your downloaded copy.

Start with a checked STEP file

You can download a review file to your PC and open it in SolidWorks without connecting the companion. This is the shortest path for testing the exported geometry.

  1. In Bill Builder → Export, choose the intended part or saved cut and its region. Use an existing matching checked file when available. A JSON project or request file is not STEP.
  2. For a new revision, choose Generate review STEP once and review the compute notice. When Ready appears, choose Download STEP package.
  3. Find the ZIP in your browser’s Downloads or chosen folder and extract it. Keep validation.json beside the .step. Check the source, selected region, revision and millimetres.
  4. In SolidWorks, use File → Open and select that extracted STEP. Record the imported body type/count, dimensions and any import message. A faceted solid contains triangle faces; it does not restore a native feature tree. A fitted surface STEP remains an open sheet.
  5. Save a separate native test copy, close it, reopen it and rebuild. Record the actual filename, save location and result. This check on your workstation is still pending.

STEP instructions and prepared review file

Companion connection: Windows acceptance pending

The downloadable companion is SETUP1 (20 October 2026). Its bundled local viewer is older than the current hosted Bill Builder. It is an existing native integration test package, not a validated update of the hosted app. Keep your current complete project and original CAD files; test compatibility on disposable copies before transferring work.

The hosted viewer does not silently connect to your PC. The native workflow uses the companion’s paired loopback viewer, a running desktop SolidWorks session and separate local permissions. Current cloud STEP routes are not implemented by that older local viewer. Do not assume choosing “paired” establishes a connection.

The official SolidWorks trial information describes a streamed browser trial. Its official file-transfer instructions use My Files → Home Folder for upload and download. A streamed trial import would validate only that file path; it does not establish the local companion/COM connection or acceptance in Bill’s installed SolidWorks version.

No live SolidWorks trial or native connection was tested in GO3D’s Linux browser environment. A licensed or properly entitled Windows desktop evaluation and scoped computer consent are required for that test. Check the requirements for the actual SolidWorks version. Manufacturing HOLD.

Connect the SolidWorks computer — controlled test only

  1. Prepare the companion. Download and extract the ZIP into a writable folder. On the Windows computer with SolidWorks, install 64-bit Python 3.10+ from its official site if needed, then run py -3 -m pip install -r requirements.txt once from the extracted folder. Keep the existing GO3D_Projects folder when upgrading. Stop the previous companion before starting this version.
  2. Open the local workspace. Open SolidWorks yourself, then start Start-GO3D-Live.cmd. Choose Open paired viewer on its welcome page. The companion stays on this computer. Hosted and local viewer storage are separate. Keep your verified complete hosted project backup; GO3D must check this older companion’s compatibility on a disposable copy before moving an active design into it.
  3. Check first. Open System check → SolidWorks. Read the local permission notice and choose Allow and check local setup. The check reads available CPU/RAM/GPU/driver fields and asks the already-running SolidWorks application for its version. A detected installation is shown separately from a verified API response. It does not open a model, change native settings, install a driver, or restart SolidWorks.
  4. Choose the design actions you need. Approve selected-file previews, library imports or separate native design copies independently. Permissions expire after 30 minutes; Revoke local permissions blocks further commands. A CAD call already running completes to its next safe stopping point. Closing the browser alone does not stop the companion.
  5. Try a small saved part. For watch/preview, activate and save a self-contained native character SLDPRT solid part, clear its selection, choose Watch open design and wait for the checked preview. For library parts, drop the selected supplier STEP/STP files; the companion makes separate native copies. Preserve the originals.

Keep the test result

After the local SolidWorks check, open System check → viewer results → Download support report. If that results panel is not yet available, run the browser check first; the report includes the local check when one has completed. Find and reopen the actual GO3D_System_Check_Report.json file on your PC. A detected installation alone does not establish a working API connection. Sharing the report is your choice; it is not sent automatically.

Review native tuning with the detected version

The report links to the official SOLIDWORKS GPU and driver certification table and version-matched settings help. Installed GPU information does not prove which GPU SolidWorks is using or measure all usable video memory.

Before a separate native settings change, use Tools → Save/Restore Settings to save a version-labelled .sldreg backup. Restore that same backup to undo matching system settings. Record document-property values separately or work on an approved copy. The current system check recommends review steps; it does not apply native tuning.

Installed-desktop acceptance is pending. The included README gives a small-part test for dimensions, cuts, placement, mates, STEP and portable native references. Read-only diagnostics, permission enforcement, cancellation and report filtering are covered by automated software tests. Bill’s real Windows hardware, installed SolidWorks session and native CAD work still need the small-part acceptance test. No native performance improvement has been measured on his computer.

QUICKSURFACE for scan-to-CAD

Use standalone Pro for surface reconstruction or its separate SOLIDWORKS add-in to work inside Bill’s CAD model. The two products use different automatic surfacing algorithms. Compare a small region before choosing a workflow.

Open QUICKSURFACE toolkit

Your design loop

Choose Design with library to queue sections, place selected components and review native options. In Surface & color, select the comparison methods and physical color route. In Return, review the frame and recipe, optionally include STEP, and explicitly create a separate design copy under the permissions you selected.

TaskResult
Section and placeOriented editable planes, automatic cut stacks, duplicate/name/hide previews and XYZ placement. Native cuts keep both sides.
Native variantsConfigurations and exposed editable length/angle dimensions on separate native copies. Imported solids may have no editable dimensions.
Reference matesCoincident, distance, parallel, perpendicular and angle plane mates; concentric reference-axis mates. Fixed or floating components.
Native returnEditable PART/assembly, copied dependencies, optional STEP, design-intent BOM, solved assembly report and recipe.
Scan-to-model and color reviewNamed region, selected feature/NURBS comparison and full-color print, adhesive wrap or hydro-dip test route. Local NURBS fitting is available in the viewer. External-tool fits, texture-map generation, physical samples, welding and merging remain separate work.

Keep the return together

Open the native filename shown in the completed result and keep its library folders together. Save detail edits in SolidWorks to refresh the local live view. For another complete build of the same recipe, activate and watch the original character part; applying the same recipe to its return would repeat completed cuts.

Bill continues general modeling, rigging, drawings and engineering approval in SolidWorks. The companion runs on the same computer; remote shared save-sync is not configured. Google Drive remains the engineering repository. Manufacturing HOLD.

Automatic NURBS and native sheet parts

Open Surface & color → Automatic scan → NURBS in the viewer. Choose a continuous patch, fit it and inspect its measured normal deviations. The NURBS1 companion can import that STEP sheet into a new native part; download the converted SLDPRT from the same panel.

Download the current companion, stop the previous companion, extract the new folder, start it and open its paired viewer. Original source files are preserved.

This produces an open sheet, not a complete solid or feature tree. Save and rebuild the returned SLDPRT in Bill’s SolidWorks 2021 before relying on it. Native desktop acceptance is still pending.
