Back to Beer Man
Bill’s quick guide · Review beta
Organize your parts.
Make a review drawing.
Bill, keep Beer Man on screen. Add the hardware you need, put it on named layers, then make a sheet to check in SolidWorks.
Open Bill-Builder-
Add a component
Open Design with library → 3 · Place parts. Use Choose files or drop a STEP/STP or STL file into the library area. Select your file and place the component where you want it.
Beer Man stays your starting model; no new scan is needed. For STL, choose the file’s units before importing. Native SLDPRT/SLDASM files use the existing paired SolidWorks companion; they do not open directly in the public browser.
-
Group parts and add their details
Select a placed component. In Model layers, choose Manage CAD layers & part information. Create a layer such as “Internal supports”, assign the component, and enter its part number, material, drawing revision and notes. Choose Save part information.
Use each layer’s checkbox to show or hide its group. A part you hid individually stays hidden when its group is shown again. Beer Man’s six region controls remain separate.
Layer color and line type describe drawing output. They do not repaint Beer Man. Removing a layer moves its components to Parts; it does not delete their geometry.
-
Save the complete project
Choose Save complete project and keep the downloaded .go3d.json file. Your component layers, assignments and part information stay with the saved project. Use Open complete project to return to that version.
-
Make your sheet
Choose Export at the top of Tools, then open Prepare shop drawing.
Under Draw, choose Current export selection for the part or cut selected in Export, or Visible placed parts for your component assembly. Choose A3 or A4 landscape, add the title and revision, then choose Create review drawing.
If you change the selection, placement, layer or drawing details, create a fresh drawing. The previous result is cleared so you do not download an old revision.
Check before using the drawing
These are mesh review drawings: projected edges and overall dimensions, without hidden-line removal, manufacturing tolerances or machine instructions. Check the part, units and a known dimension in SolidWorks.
Original file units and STEP properties remain source information; working geometry and DXF coordinates use millimetres. STEP layer names are listed for reference but are not automatically assigned to the new component layers. Importing a STEP preview does not preserve a native SolidWorks feature tree.
Tell us what you need next
Use the Project QA log to describe a problem or request a tool and set its priority. Include the part name, what you tried and the result you want.
CNC/router machining, direct 3D printing and vacuum-forming connections remain future work. Each needs its own material/stock setup and checked CAM, slicer or forming process. Machine control is not enabled. Manufacturing remains HOLD.
